The Sixth Sense Reader traces the history of the idea of the sixth sense in Western culture, and also explores the notion of supplementary faculties of perception across cultures. It reveals that a remarkably diverse array of powers have been attributed sixth sense status – from magnetism and movement to gut feelings and clairvoyance, and even mind itself (in the Buddhist tradition). The focus of the book is on the analysis of the cultural contexts that give rise to notions of psychic and other powers which exceed the ordinary bounds of sense.
The Sixth Sense Reader is published by Berg of Oxford and distributed in the USA and Canada by Palgrave-Macmillan
